      Powell-Peralta x Steve Caballero Artwork;
      Steve Caballero began riding for Powell-Peralta in 1979 at the age of 14 upon his success in the Californian "Gold Cup Series" skate competitions. One of the original "Class of '79" in the newly formed "Bones Brigade" skate team Stacy Peralta and George Powell had established, Steve quickly became one of their top skaters, with innovative riding, style and power which set a standard for vertical skateboarding.
      In 1980 Steve turned professional, the time in which Powell-Peralta released Steve Caballero's first pro-signature board. He was initially offered a simple propeller/skull nose-art graphic but rejected it. Steve submitted some sketches of his own, one of which was a crouching dragon, which was the art direction that followed. Powell-Peralta artist Vernon Courtlandt Johnson (VCJ) reworked the design a couple times before laying down the final ink. The pro-signature board was released in December 1980.
      In time, a Dragon themed graphic would become the signature image for Steve Caballero's pro models, in part inspired by another respected superstar of Asian heritage, Bruce Lee (known as "The Little Dragon" for his movies "Enter the Dragon" and "Return of the Dragon"), and for Caballero's birth year of 1964, The Year of the Dragon in the Chinese and Japanese zodiac calendars.

      Steve Caballero's Signature Dragon Artwork;

      • 1980: Original Dragon. Crouching Dragon on a flat skateboard bearing, with later subtle variations.
      • 1986: Chinese Dragon. Inspired by a Chinese takeout box. Often associated with the "Search for Animal Chin" video era.
      • 1987: Street Dragon. Featuring a "bats and bones" background. Designed specifically for street skating, featuring the "Caballero" name in a bat-shaped font.

      The Bones Brigade were an unprecedented group of skateboarders who, as a collective, transformed the cultural and technical evolution of skateboarding. The innovative manoeuvres performed by them over a decade spanned the fundamental to revolutionary.
      World champion Stacy Peralta recruited and mentored the "Brigade" as he joined forces with product designer George Powell to form Powell Peralta.

      Graphics, colours, veneers and stains may vary slightly from images.
