Powell-Peralta x Tony Hawk Artwork;
Tony Hawk first started riding for Powell Peralta in 1982, joining the brand's legendary Bones Brigade team shortly after.
Hawk's first pro-board, released in '82, featured a realistic Hawk graphic with his signature next to it. Achieving only modest sales, Powell Peralta replaced the Hawk graphic in '83 with another Vernon Courtlandt Johnson (VCJ) graphic, featuring a military style iron cross with a chicken skull overlay. The iron cross would become a Tony Hawk trademark, featuring as the backdrop on future graphic artwork. The iron cross paired with the chicken skull became known as the "Screaming Chicken Skull" graphic.
In 1989, VJC created the "Tony Hawk Claw" (or "Big Time Hawk") graphic, featuring a grasping hawk claw (or talon), which along with the iron cross, was used on Hawk's decks as he transitioned from "bottlenose" shapes to wider street boards.
The Bones Brigade were an unprecedented group of skateboarders who, as a collective, transformed the cultural and technical evolution of skateboarding. The innovative manoeuvres performed by them over a decade spanned the fundamental to revolutionary.
World champion Stacy Peralta recruited and mentored the "Brigade" as he joined forces with product designer George Powell to form Powell Peralta.
Graphics, colours, veneers and stains may vary slightly from images.
