About the Powell-Peralta Skull and Sword Artwork;
In the summer of 1984, Mike McGill perfected the 540 degree front-flip aerial maneuver, known as the "540 McTwist" at a skate camp in Sweden. This groundbreaking, competition changing trick coincided with the time V.C. Johnson was designing a new deck graphic for McGill. With the popularity of the Powell-Peralta "Skull and Bones" theme, it was decided to use a similar theme for McGill's new deck. In tribute to his home state of Florida with it's diverse snake population and frequent thunderstorms, McGill requested that a snake and lightning bolts be incorporated into the skull graphic.  
McGill's Skull and Snake graphic now an iconic design from the 80's.
